AirdriftSignals: An Online Music Magazine & Music Discussion Group
I guess it's time to finally reveal the launch of my second major website upgrade in just 10 months, that which also happens to be my biggest update ever for AirdriftSignals. I give you, AirdriftSignals Music Group.
This system I created was a major undertaking over the past number of months, but it was all worth it. I took the best of what's offered by all of the social media platforms and message boards and compiled it all into a supercharged discussion board for music lovers. Let's get into it.
What is AirdriftSignals Music Group?
For close to 20 years, I called my website AirdriftSignals Music Magazine. How is a website a "magazine"? I sought early on to differentiate my website from other music "blogs" by that simple name change. It's not a blog, but it's a product inspired by my youth of reading music magazines, enjoying the quality of the content and the depth of the reviews and interviews of music artists I followed. Magazines are awesome in that they offer something tactile and feel special in a way that a blog, or online journal, doesn't seem to emulate. What AirdriftSignals lacks in physical form I made up for in a uniquely tailored web design, ad-free reading, deep dive long form content, a platform playlist, and interactive articles full of interconnected links and site navigation. But now comes the next layer of the matrix and the rebrand.
AirdriftSignals Music Group is exactly what it says it is. It's not just a place for me to post anymore, but a community discussion hub where anyone with a Google account can sign in and comment for free. I started that with the most basic premise of this idea, with threads.
The Discussion Board
The discussion board is the heart of AMG, and it's where all of the articles that I've posted that have eligible discussion threads tacked on the end are located in chronological order. There are sections near the top that are for feature requests within this system I designed, as well as bug reports and updates that I will periodically make when I add something new to this platform. But this isn't just about articles I've posted, as I made an entire branching General Discussion board in the Community section that covers a wide variety of topics. NO POLITICS PLEASE. But everything else is welcome. Comments load and slide-into threads live as they are posted by readers, and you may see the thread grow dynamically as well as see who is typing a comment or a reply. Depending on who is posting, you may notice that there are some users who have a little more prestige. This is where the membership comes in.
Memberships and Flairs
This is something that I've been thinking about for quite some time now. I've been a fan of other message boards for groups like The Mars Volta, Animal Collective, and The Beach Boys, as well as a power user on Reddit before I was... banned. Needless to say! I loved using flairs myself and I wanted something to differentiate readers on here in a way that felt exclusive and awesome. That's why I am introducing memberships in this new platform. Each flair represents a different level of membership. Anybody, even free users, can redeem a flair so no one feels left out. Starting with the free Drifter tier, users have a cosmetic flair that’s symbolic of my past radio show and this online music platform that keeps its season and seasonal flair color on your comments depending on what season and year you redeem this flair. This is purely cosmetic, but additional options, settings, and premium features scale from there with the Supporter, Subscriber, Member, and Collector membership tiers. See below 👇🏼

Premium Features
Premium features as you see up above are granted based on the membership tier you sign up for. They tend to increase exponentially for just a very nominal increase in the subscription amount. GIFs are fun. Being on a leaderboard is cool. Custom colors rule. Exclusive access to Focus is pretty lit. More on that below.
Community Polls
Another feature that I put a lot of work into and will be heavily integrated in this AirdriftSignals Music Group and throughout this site is Community Polls. I designed many different types of polls such as pick 1 answer from a short list, rank your top picks, and multiple selections which aren’t a weighted ranking.
Over the next couple of weeks, AirdriftSignals will become filled with exciting and thought-provoking community polls. While they won’t all be viewable on the main Discussion Board hub, many will be able to be found interspersed in the music articles you have seen on here and they will have a variety of artist specific questions that may encourage your written opinions in the discussion threads or force a new perspective on how you view the music you love to listen to. Collector members even have the ability to create their own polls that are in-line in their comments!
Some will be member specific and require a minimum membership tier, others will only require flair, the Drifter flair being free means you can vote on it, and others may be completely free and not require a flair in order to vote. Members+ Tiers Create Their Own Threads
The only way to truly make this a living, growing and evolving music community is to literally give the publishing power to members. This is a huge part of my design, and I don't want it to be just about me posting and others commenting on my posts. I want there to be a true group effort for how I run things on here moving forward. Members and Collectors tiers are the first small step toward a giant leap forward in the story of this website, as it slowly transforms into something we all own a piece of (I have even more of that planned in my roadmap, but it might need SEC approval).
So Members and up can create their own threads in the General Discussion sub forums, effectively making AirdriftSignals a message board. Of course I kindly request that the topics are relevant to the board, and that there are no inappropriate threads. I have suspension and banning capabilities but I’d rather not have to resort to using them. Regardless, fools will be fools. Next up, the private chat room…
Member's Studio Chatroom (Member+)
Another exclusive feature is a private chat room that only Members and Collectors can enter. I basically will share any future article or review ideas I may be planning but also be open to planning openly with other members. It’s also a place to just chill and unwind and vent as long as it’s kept cool. Remember that no hate speech, harassment or spam will be tolerated. Read the terms of service.
Featured Artists and Featured Writers
This is one of the things I am most excited about. Over the years I have had good artist relations. I wanted to find a way to expand my articles into effectively an AMA of artists I review or interview. Some may be free to read and post questions and others may require a flair at the very least or a membership to @mention or reply to a Featured Artists or Writer’s comments. Once I get Focus 🫧 delivered to mobile app stores, I will switch gears and work hard to secure exciting artist interviews and make this place a really amazing hub for artists to connect with fans. Focus 🫧 An AirdriftSignals Visualizer
This is an entire app that I came up with in my quest to make AirdriftSignals the best music site around. It formed organically from my testing of several of my many community poll results views, that include various visual representations of vote results, and which, not surprisingly, became a few of the primary visual modes of Focus 🫧 which is essentially a meditation-relaxation-custom music player-visualizer-game. I want to invite you to check out the demo where you can see what I built and how progress in this app is designed. It’s fun to just leave on and stare at. It’s been clinically proven to lower stress levels and restore your sense of self.
Bug Reports, Fixes and Updates
As with any digital product managed over time, it goes without saying that I will be tinkering with this system for a very long time. It may have some bugs, a few of which I actually found when writing this announcement. I have a thread under the Community section where you can report bugs 🪲 and I will add to it regularly what I may find during my own testing to be upfront about anything that seems wonky. I will reply to any of my report comments when the bugs 🐛 are fixed.
I plan on making more exciting updates to this entire discussion board system in the future as well. Given how far I’ve come, the sky really is the limit and I’m going to keep cooking and pushing hard to make this an insanely cool and premium experience for music lovers. You will be able to find out about these updates in the Updates thread under the Start Here section. But also don’t be afraid to post your own feature requests in the Feature Requests thread. I am open to evolving this website even more with your input.
Adding The Discussion Board to Your Homepage = A Native App Experience
Basically what the title says. If you go to the discussion board and actually save the link 📲 to your Home Screen, it actually becomes a native mobile app. There you can access it quickly if you become a member and more active and connect with other members. You will be able to follow other members as well as receive notifications for replies and specific discussions that you choose to subscribe to. You really have a ton of customizable settings and controls, including light/dark mode, email notifications, following others, and more.
