Both songs, if that’s what you want to call them, feature very weird historic samples. Allone explores the duality of the dual meaning of both the word and the phrase and is based on a famous LSD experiment featuring a 1950s housewife conducted in 1956. I decided to release what I composed as an electronic synthesized score that plays alongside it to commemorate its 70th anniversary of this eye-opening mind-altering study. I wanted to create a musical language that could speak alongside this experiment, which is what makes this single stand out more than most other standard songs that exist today. Of course, being me, I latched on to the irony of what was spoken and ended up taking this experiment into some dark recesses based on some of her observations.
Undervater Anima is much more ambiguous and I guess you could say avant-garde. I don’t exactly remember the film this sample came from, but it’s an old film or documentary which features a woman reflecting on working with Salvador Dali. Overall, it’s a weird left-field audio experiment that makes no sense but overall I always thought had a pretty neat atmosphere. The Undervater is an intentional misspelling to force a Slavic or German pronunciation and add to the mystique of the track. Anima means a person’s true inner self, the subconscious feminine construct, and the characteristics of compassion, intuition, emotional depth, and empathy. It’s a subconscious need for the masculine to embrace the feminine for wholeness. Isn’t that wholesome? I also find it interesting that both of these songs prominently feature women speaking.
